ABOUT US

Te Whāriki ā Toi is the learning management system for Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty.

Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty is one of 20 health districts that comprise Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand, and one of five that make up the Te Manawa Taki region.  We serve a population of 255,1102 residents, with 199,751 in the Western Bay of Plenty and 55,359 in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.  The major population centres are Tauranga, Katikati, Te Puke, Whakatāne, Kawerau and Ōpōtiki.  Some 31% of our residents are aged under 25, and 25.6% identify as having Māori ethnicity. Eighteen iwi are located within our district.

Our Vision is Kia Momoho Te Hāpori ōranga  or Healthy, thriving communities.  Our mission is enabling communities to achieve good health, independence and access to quality services.

Te Whāriki ā Toi translates to “The Woven Mat of Toi Rākau”.  Mats are a well-known image for the weaving of knowledge and education, particular mats had special functions and some were seating in places of learning.  Toi is a common ancestor to all iwi (tribes) in the Bay of Plenty and “toi” is also a word for summit, so gives an idea of the peak of achievement.
The site delivers learning for all employees of Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty and contracted primary health care providers.  A mix of mandatory, role required, and optional professional development courses all attract professional development hours.  Te Whāriki ā Toi also provides access to eportfolios, using the Mahara platform.
